The combination of casual and classic can be notoriously difficult to achieve, but as we’ve noted before, so much of a wedding’s success comes down to attitude. Christina and Marco definitely brought the attitude that allowed us to forge a wedding that could bring the worlds of casual comfort and radiant class together.
Early morning saw the great tent erected at Ocean Key’s Sunset Pier, the site of that night’s festivities. Sunset Pier is a favorite destination that combines a brilliant tropical vista with Ocean Key’s amenities, perfect for a luxurious sunset celebration. Crystal chandeliers were raised, a classic black and white checked dancefloor, and a natural fence of ferns arranged to enclose the venue.
Elsewhere within the resort, Christina was in her suite preparing. Lorri Bolander of Key West Hair and Makeup was busy brightening Christina’s smiling visage. At midday Milan Events delivered two unique nosegays of wedding flowers in the theme of vintage chic, a boutonniere of billy balls for Marco and one of succulents for Christina’s distinguished father, Walter (who, as it happens, planned a majority of the wedding), and finally her own bouquet of peach garden roses, white stock, yellow billy balls and goats beard accents. Christina wore an understated gown that accentuated her fabulous figure and white pearls adorned her elegant neck, while Marco dressed down with a sky blue madras shirt and tan suit that brought a note of “relax” to this happy occasion.
Blueye Images, whose fantastic photos feature in this blog, was on the scene capturing both First Look photography and the day’s events with a discerning eye – right up to the moment Christina and Marco prepared to approach the altar with sun shining and a salt sea breeze blowing out on Ocean Key’s own Ocean Terrace. As John Hernandez commenced the ceremony, there between white pedestals topped with white hydrangea and a warm sprinkling of peach and orange roses with yellow and green accents, Christina and Marco spoke their vows and began their married life.
As sunset came on so did the reception, beginning with cocktails on Sunset Pier with hors d’oeuvres. Many flavors were available from the cool, tangy Ahi Tuna Tartar on crispy malanga chips with tangerine ginger sauce, to the savory of Beef sugar cane skewers with sweet chili sauce, to the sweetness of coconut battered shrimp with spicy orange marmalade, or the exotic bite of Mojo Pork, manchego cheese and guava barbecue empanadas. This was only the preamble to a dinner designed for choice.
As guests found their places among the soft, natural decor of soft khaki linen covered tables, Moroccan lanterns glowing with julep cups in a garden floral, and mahogany chiavarri chairs, four separate stations opened up to offer the ultimate in classy-yet-casual dining. Stations of Spinach, Risotto Martinis, Island Ceviche and Steak Frites dished so many mouthwatering choices it was nearly impossible to sample all they had to offer.
The end of dinner signals dessert, and so a delicious creation from Cakes by Karol took center stage. This 3-tier masterpiece was layered top and bottom with chocolate cake and raspberry filling with a middle of Key Lime, iced with vanilla butter cream and accents by none other than Milan Events.
It’s a fabulous experience to create a relaxed atmosphere around such a stylish wedding. For a couple that brings the right attitude for it, like Christina and Marco, it can be a dream come true. And may the dream continue for them both.
