In the pantheon of American islands best suited for a destination wedding there are many that capture the imagination. The Old World charm of Nantucket, the wooded retreats of Martha’s Vineyard, the period stylings of Mackinac – even Manhattan has its attractions. But any list must surely be topped by none other than Hawaii and our very own Key West.
For Danielle and Ray, there would be no compromise. What could be better than combining the Pacific accents of a Hawaiian themed wedding with the tropical talents of Key West?
As you can see in our gallery by Limelight Photography, Danielle and Ray embraced the spirit of a dash to the islands with personal touches that echo several motifs that dovetail nicely. Brought together under the coordination of Simply You, we were able to help them reproduce the feel of their early days together in the islands where they met.
The entire event took place at Casa Marina, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. This fabulously upscale venue provides both soft, sandy beach for a ceremony in the afternoon and incredible ballroom space for a grand reception in the evening. The beach was especially critical in creating the look of our Hawaiian themed wedding, with the ocean view and palms that evoke the feel of the Pacific. Romantic dinner cruises in Hawaii is another good option, by the way.
Likewise, floral design by Milan Event brought plenty of warmth and brightness to the occasion. Bouquets of sunflowers and other blooms of gold with shocking emerald accents gave life to light. Decor was enhanced by ruddy golden votives and a single large martini-style glass centerpiece with cascading greens that recalled the waterfalls of Hawaii.
These elements blended seamlessly with the overall vintage chic design which also incorporated the travel aspect of Danielle and Ray’s story. Whether it was the sunfaded suitcases, personalized travel tag place cards, gilded frames or Danielle’s gift to Ray of a golden pocket watch with the coordinates of Honolua bay, the warm, sunlit accents were all there.
The Hawaiian themed wedding extended even into the dressing rooms, where Danielle, along with her ladies in waiting, sported silky floral print robes as Studio Marie Pierre worked their magic. Danielle was exquisite in aquamarine and golden jewelry (including her own grandmother’s wedding and engagement ring set), her dress a fantastic hybrid of a traditional gown combined with flamenco flavor by The White Flower, and a single blossom in her hair to symbolize her betrothal.
