A rising trend in wedding design is the advent of unique looks being brought together under a broader theme. Shannon and Thomas’ wedding is a perfect example. Their special day tied together décor that displayed rustic, seaside and gilded accents. In a similar way, even the wedding party carried on this theme as the Bride and her beautiful ladies each wore different dresses that bespoke their own personal touch, an individual contribution to the attitude of Shannon and Thomas’ wedding.
Flowers for the occasion were arranged by Simply Unique, which perhaps wasn’t a coincidence. Corsages of soft pink spray roses were combined with grey accents to enhance their effect, with boutonnieres of the same for the men.
Arriving at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, the venerable basilica of Key West, the Bride and Groom and guests experienced what may be the most sacred and awe-inspiring space in the Keys that isn’t overlooking the ocean. After a beautiful ceremony, the wedding party was driven via Keys Limo to Ocean Key Resort where the cocktail reception was about to get underway. The new Mr. and Mrs. Lauer invited their guests to refresh themselves with oyster Bloody Mary shooters, coconut battered shrimp with spicy orange marmalade, mini crab cakes with chipotle aioli, and mojo pork with manchego cheese and guava barbecue empanadas.
Soon dinner was served on the fabulous Sunset Pier, arguably the most popular point in Key West to enjoy a luxurious drink as the sun sets on another tropical day in paradise. With seven great round tables set, each had its own unique theme in honor of Ernest Hemingway’s greatest works, from “A Farewell to Arms” to “The Old Man and the Sea”. Entrees that evening included chicken roulade with spinach, brie cheese, and shitake mushrooms wrapped in prosciutto drizzled with mustard cream sauce. There was also the classic “Surf and Turf” entrée, a prime filet and spinney Florida lobster served with chimmichuri drawn butter and gorgonzola cream to awaken every aspect of the pallet from sweet to sour to savory.
The cake from Key West Cakes was a 3-tier affair of diverse flavors – a red velvet with cream cheese filling set upon a Key Lime with Kay Lime within, set upon a marble cake with chocolate buttercream, covered in all-white buttercream and adorned with several precious blooms from Simply Unique to tie it all together.
So you see, a vision of unique and different elements can create a diverse experience that is not limited by a stringent theme. Uniformity is eschewed in favor of the broadest experience possible, from distinct visuals to varied settings to surprising flavors. In this way Shannon and Thomas created a wedding for themselves which would truly be theirs for all time.
